James E. Furno, 58, of Meadville went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Thursday, September 28, 2017 at the Marquette Hospice House.

He was born September 14, 1959 in Meadville a son of John and Anne Veronica Bryant Furno.  He was a 1978 graduate of Meadville High School and served briefly in the US Navy before being honorably discharged due to health reasons.  He worked for the former City Hospital in food service, in maintenance at Allegheny College and the Meadville Rec-Complex and various other odd jobs.

James had been a member of Emmanuel Church in Meadville in his early years when Rev. Ziegler was the Pastor.  In recent years, he was affiliated with Saegertown United Methodist Church and attended regularly when he was able.  He had a faithful relationship with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  James was a life-long member of the Meadville YMCA and enjoyed the facilities frequently.  In his early years, he was quite a good swimmer.  He also enjoyed bowling, collecting coins, and baseball and football cards.  He was a loyal Cleveland Indians fan and also followed football and basketball as well.  He enjoyed watching nature shows, dog shows and any program about bears, especially panda bears and enjoyed cub scouts in his early years.  James became disabled in his later years and had numerous health problems.  He also enjoyed traveling with his mother to California and across the country, having lived in the San Diego area for a couple of years.

He is survived by his mother, Anne V. (Bryant) Furno of Meadville; two uncles Gary E. Bryant of Greensboro, GA and Alfred Furno, Sr. of Meadville; and many wonderful cousins.  He was especially grateful to and fond of a special cousin, Maria (Gidget) Copeland for her thoughtfulness and kindness during his many times of illness.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Douglas J. Furno; an uncle, James C. Bryant; his paternal grandparents, Dominic and Maria Nuzzolo Furno; his maternal grandparents, Joseph E. and Hazel Mills Bryant; five aunts, Ann Guthrie, Ethel Evans, Angie Furno, Angeline Furno (an infant), and Lucy Perry with whom James was especially fond of; and six uncles, Matteo, Angelo, Anthony, Frank, Albert, and Dominic Furno.

Calling hours will be Saturday, September 30th from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville where the funeral service will follow at 12:00 p.m. with the Rev. Darrell L. Greenawalt, Pastor of Saegertown United Methodist Church, officiating.

Interment will be in Rocky Glen Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Many thanks and appreciation for all of the nurses, caretakers, and others who provided good care for James while he was in the hospital, nursing home, and hospice.
