Hazel E. Ervin

March 24, 1921 ~ March 21, 2003 (age 81)

            Hazel E. Ervin, 81, of Cochranton, died Friday, March 21, 2003 at Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community.

            She was born March 24, 1921 in Adamsville, a daughter of the late William James and Mary Ann McElhaney Rodgers.  She married Julian F. Ervin July 5, 1939 and he preceded her in death December 12, 1990.

            She was a graduate of Greenville High School and worked at Talon for 15 years as a production worker.  She subsequently was owner and operator of the Holiday Tavern in Easton, PA for 30 years.  She was a member of the Meadville Elks Lodge #219 Auxiliary and the Veteran of Foreign Wars Post #2006 Auxiliary.  She enjoyed reading and spending time with her grandchildren.

            She was of the Presbyterian faith.

            Survivors include a daughter, Donna Dennis and her husband Paul of Cochranton; a son, J. Thomas Ervin and his wife Anne of Billerica, MA; a sister, Grace Speir of Greenville; 5 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.  In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Larry Jude Ervin; 2 sisters, Edith Frye and Frances Rodgers; and a brother, Harry Rodgers.

            Calling hours will be today (Monday) from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.

            A funeral service will be Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. William L. Brown, Visitation Pastor of Stone United Methodist Church officiating.

            Burial will be in Rocky Glen Cemetery.
