Howard Edward Wallis, 90, formerly of New Sewickley Township and current resident of Townville, died at home surrounded by family on Tuesday, December 7, 2021.
Howard was born in Economy Township, Beaver Co., PA on June 13, 1931, a son of Leroy and Margaret (Shaffer) Wallis.
He was a dutiful son and loving husband, father and friend.
He was married to the former June Maynard for 54 years. Howard cared for her while she struggled with Alzheimer’s. After a courageous battle, June died on April 1, 2007. He was also preceded in death by his parents, six sisters and two brothers.
Howard is an example of God’s testing and refining those he loves. He succeeded in spite of many obstacles. He is remembered for his strong work ethic, as well as being fair and willing to help others.
One of Howard’s achievements was serving part-time as Sergeant of the New Sewickley Police Department, all while holding a full-time position with St. Joe Zinc Smelting Co. of America. It was there he rose from sweeping the floors at age 18, to becoming the supervisor of both the roasting and acid plants. In addition, he was New Sewickley Township Supervisor for 18 years. Howard also served on the Land Preservation Board, the Civil Defense Board and many other community boards.
Howard is survived by his loving wife, Mary, whom he married July 11, 2009. He is also survived by his daughter, Donna Harvey, his son, Edward Wallis, a brother, Donald Wallis, as well as, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Romans 8: “For I am convinced that neither death, nor life … nor anything else in all creation will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
There will be no visitation or service.
Interment will be private at Sylvania Hill Memorial Park in the Chimes Section, Rochester, PA.
