Richard J. Irwin, 89, of Meadville died Thursday, April 18, 2019 at Wesbury United Methodist Community.
He was born November 10, 1929 in Meadville a son of Rollin K. and Edna Mabel Williams Irwin. He was a veteran of the Korean War stationed in Germany and France with the US Army from 1951-1953. He worked at Channellock Inc. as a machine operator and service man for 47 years retiring in 1993. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church of the Redeemer and the American Legion.
He enjoyed fishing in Canada and Chatauqua Lake, NASCAR racing and traveling to all 50 states with Anderson Tours. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle and building and flying remote controlled airplanes. He was also a proud cancer survivor. He always looked forward to Wednesday night spaghetti dinner at Scooters by the Lake in Andover, OH and enjoying the view of Conneaut Lake while dining at Silver Shores in the summer. Dinner was always followed by vanilla ice cream for dessert.
He is survived by his brother, Wallace Irwin (Shirley) of Meadville; nieces and nephews, Sherree Yochum (Rodney), Susan Beck (Steve), Jeffrey Irwin (Memory), Timothy Irwin (Janet), Karen Hoover, Darlene Labrozzi, Nancy Diley (Don) and William Cooper and several great nieces and great nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Lois M. Eldred; a nephew, Robert Eldred and two nieces, Debra Ann Cooper and Linda Nearhoof.
Calling hours will be Monday, April 22nd from 6-8 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville.
The funeral service will be Tuesday, April 23rd at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Timothy Solomon, Pastor of Presbyterian Church of the Redeemer, officiating.
Interment with military honors provided by Huidekoper VFW Post #2006 will be in Greendale Cemetery.
